WORDS OF WISDOM
“Clarity gives us the courage to see what is true. Control demands that reality become what we want it to be.”
THE FREEDOM OF SEEING CLEARLY.
There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from trying to find an answer to everything.
Why did this happen?
What could I have done differently?
How do I make certain it never happens again?
We revisit conversations, examine decisions, and imagine outcomes that might have unfolded if only we had known more.
Sometimes reflection brings understanding.
Other times, it becomes an attempt to control a past that can no longer be changed.
The distinction matters.
Clarity asks us to recognize what is within our responsibility and what never belonged to us in the first place.
Control asks us to keep searching until uncertainty disappears.
But life does not always offer certainty.
People may act in ways we cannot explain. Institutions may fail to respond as we expect. Relationships may change despite our best intentions.
We can acknowledge these realities without surrendering our judgment or our agency.
“UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAPPENED DOES NOT REQUIRE US TO KEEP LIVING INSIDE IT.”
We are allowed to seek answers.
We are allowed to ask difficult questions, examine the evidence, and hold people accountable for their choices.
But wisdom also asks us to recognize when further analysis is no longer creating understanding.
There comes a point when the more meaningful question is no longer, How could I have prevented every outcome?
It becomes, What do I know now, and how will I use that knowledge to move forward?
This is the difference between trying to manage everything and learning to lead ourselves.
We do not need complete control to make a thoughtful decision.
We need enough clarity to recognize our next responsible step.
And sometimes the most powerful decision is to stop negotiating with what we already know is not good for us.
A QUESTION TO CONSIDER
Where in your life are you seeking control when what you truly need is clarity?
