WISDOM LEAVES ROOM FOR WONDER

WORDS OF WISDOM

“Discernment teaches us to recognize what may harm us. Wisdom reminds us not to overlook what may still be beautiful.”

THE COURAGE TO SEE BEYOND WHAT HURT US.

There are times in life when paying attention becomes a form of protection.

We learn to notice changes in behavior. We question unfamiliar circumstances. We become more careful about whom we trust and where we invest our energy.

These responses may develop from experiences that taught us the importance of being prepared.

And sometimes, caution serves us well.

But there is a difference between learning from what happened and allowing those experiences to define everything we expect from the future.

When we become accustomed to looking for danger, we may overlook the quieter evidence that life is capable of offering something different.

A moment of kindness.

An unexpected opportunity.

A conversation that feels safe.

A beautiful afternoon that asks nothing of us.

None of these experiences erases what came before.

Nor do they require us to disregard our judgment.

“Being open to beauty does not mean becoming blind to reality.”

Wisdom is not the absence of caution.

It is the ability to recognize when caution is necessary and when it may be possible to make room for something else.

We can establish boundaries while remaining curious.

We can acknowledge uncertainty without treating every unfamiliar experience as a warning.

And we can appreciate what is good without believing that appreciation makes us naïve.

There is no obligation to trust before we feel ready.

No requirement to find meaning in everything that has caused us pain.

But we are allowed to notice moments that remind us life contains more than what we have endured.

Sometimes beauty returns quietly.

Not as a declaration that everything has been repaired, but as a reminder that our capacity to experience wonder has not disappeared.

And perhaps this is one of the gentlest forms of freedom:

To remain discerning without allowing fear to become the only lens through which we see the world.

A QUESTION TO CONSIDER

What is something beautiful in your life that you may have overlooked while trying to remain prepared for what could go wrong?
